Most trucks are very inconvenient when it comes to installing a floor shifter. Most small shifters are short, and when mounted can be pretty low, and not very comfortable to use.
A company called Lokar;Lokar: Shifters and Shifter *****
Has a veriety of shifters that mount on the trans, or can be remote mounted.
The cable activated shifters are not available for Fords, go figure, but can easilly be upgraded and modified with a B&M bracket package. The Morse cables mount the same, and these brackets are available through B&M.
Not sure what look you are after, but roll cages can be modified to mount the shifter to.

I am sure this may not be an option for most, so unless you have a box, or mount made to mount the shifter above the floor, the Lokar might be an alternative.
I'm open to most anything right now. I have the option to mount it however I want since nothing is in the way above the floor board. I will use the truck to plow snow with and the floor shifter is much easier to use than the column one. I had a cheap Auto Zone floor shifter on my '77, I put a 6" extension on the handle to make it easy to reach but just sold the truck. It worked pretty good but would like something a little better if possible. Something with a short handle, like in that pic. might work better. Doesn't have to be fancy.
I would make a console or something then mount the shifter up to it.
The one i seen was kinda rigged to work for the time being....
If your looking for something thats easier to use. DO something like the lokar and build a custom console to mount it one. For ease of operation...
