Anyone thought of swapping out their 4.9liter for a GM vortec 4200?
this GM engine is everything that should be in a ford f150 4X4.
It looks like it would need some major things like an adapter plate to trans, possibly a different oil pan to fit ford frontend, and of course engine mount adapters.
I know I know " how could I ever think of desecrating a ford with chevy products?"
If you wanna see interesting ford inline six engines, look at what the ford corporation has done in australia...think turbocharged I6 from the factory.

Yeah I have looked at the aussie line. Pretty cool. just too expensive to import and well they made them for cars. Need more lower end torque for a truck.
I used to work at a rental shop in Belfair, waiting on them to go under now.
Kitsap muffler used to bend up the pipes I'd turn into tractor pipe headers for guys at the demolition derby. I'm kinda surprised, I had no customers this year. Guess the sets I made over the last two years are a bit too good.
I'll be heading down to Kitsap muffler to have them make up a new front pipe for my truck soon. Too expensive to take it to them, they wanted $650 to run duals on my old Galaxie. Wouldn't even quote me on the single 3" I wanted to get.

I can pick up a used vortec 4200 for $800 bucks.
Import wouldnt be cost effective, I agree, just pointed that out, as many arent aware ford marketed their best engines in australia.
With that said, an engine doesnt know its in a car or truck, and a trubo 4.0 making 400 lbft of torque is impressive, they are used in SUV's. Ford coulda changed the face of compact trucks, had they started dropping their turbo 4.0 in the american ford rangers.
Try inliners.org to learn about standalone eec control of the 4200, as well as who can remove the VATS, which youll need to do, or show you how to trick the security system altogether. There is a guy building a performance 4200 turbo engine now, he is expected to dyno a stock 4200 with turbo any day now, this is in an early chevy truck, I wanna say 51, how cool is that.
Another option would be a genIII v8 the 4200's big bro...think 5.3 or 6.0. Engine wise, its darn near a bolt in deal with the right parts, suprising as that may sound. No matter what engine, you might wanna get under some vehicles and see how the GM tranny/transfer case might align with your axles, the GM 4L80E is a fairly stout transmission.
i love odd ball combos. im not really the kind of person to mix brands, but its really just a personal thing. ive see some hot rods powered by vette motors and they looked bad @$$.
i say go for it and post some pics.
DON'T DO IT!!! I am so tired of seeing Chevrolet engines put into Ford vehicles. It's just not right... it makes me want to do the opposite, take a 69 or 70 Chevelle SS and drop a 429 Ford in it! Don't get me wrong the 4200 is a very impressive and powerful inline six, I have driven several of them. Why not swap one into an older Chevy pickup?
if ur gonna use the truck as a work truck,id stick with the 4.9,my sis has a 4200,she lives between baltimore and dc and ill be the first one to tell u that would be a much better engine to go with driving there cuz of the extra ponies, besides its not like ur dropping a 350 in there
Just stick with the 300 it's a proven powerplant... you can't go wrong with it. Don't put a Chevy motor in it... buy a Chevy truck instead if you must have one of their "wonderful" motors.
i can also agree with that,if were to put a gm engine in there ithe only way i would go is with the 4200,but still i would never put a gm engine in a ford
Put things into perspective a little. I was once into brand loyalty, until I made a realization.
What happens when you beef up an engine for performance....you replace the heads, pistons, rods, intake, throttle body, camshaft, exh manifold w/t headers....and so forth with brand X....its no longer a ford engine, as ford intended, so how would it differ if someone put a GM engine in a ford.
Another favorite of mine is the die hard ford enthusiast...nothing but ford...whats under the hood, dart block, ross pistons, afr heads..........
who cares...drive what you want, build what you want, cause at the end of the day, noone gives a rats *** what you do or dont do, besides, they aint payin fer it so....
