Simple.

I have a photographic memory, why I was one of the highest paid back parts (shop) counter partsmen in the US at one time, making over 7 grand a month in 1992/1997.

That's more than most of the parts managers make today.

The transmission code is "k" and the axle code is "24".

K = C6 Cruise-O-Matic

24 = Dana 60 / 4.10-1 / non Limited Slip / 5300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity

If the Axle Code contains three digits, the third digit decodes the front axle.

But Ford, more often than not, didn't list the (4WD) front axle code on the Warranty Plate.

Since there is no front axle code, the only way to find out what it is....is to look on the front axle itself.

The ID tag for a Dana 44 front axle is under one of the bolts that holds the inspection cover on.

If a Dana 60, the code is either on the inspection cover ala the Dana 44, or it's bolted to the housing itself on a 2" x 1/2" metal plate.

This plate is just to the right of the inspection cover, 2 bolts retain it.

The code could be either/or like this: D9TA-AA or a seven digit Dana ID number similar to this: 603010-1.

Thank you Bill. I will look for that tag for the front axle and get back to this tomorrow.

whoops. I knew that. when I decode the VIN I usually look to see if there are any mistakes and there usually aren't, but this time there was and I messed up....... then I just copy and paste the stuff from the decoder to the reply box.
