I always felt that Hollywood had a bone to pick with Newman. He had several roles that would have gotten lesser actors Oscars, but although he was nominated several times, the prize always went to someone else. It may have been because he didn't join in Hollywood's game playing. He was his own man, and did what he wanted, and may have paid a price. RIP Paul. jd
Had a marriage that was also a legend, Joanne Woodward (sp)
Loved racing, running a company that made good food products that helped out others in less fortunate situations as stated before.
Never talked about Hollywood, BUT,,, Ask him about Daytona, Indy, and Road Courses were at, you'd get an ear full.

Hollywood will probably make a feeble attempt to make up for the Oscars by providing a lifetime achievement award....now that he's dead....
He was a great actor, a great racer, and a great humanitarian who donated millions of dollars to various charities without any fanfare. RIP Mr. Newman...............

Newman was nominated for an Oscar 10 times, he won an Oscar in 1986 for The Color of Money.
He also won many other awards, including the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1994.
And an Honorary Oscar in 1986 for his many memorable screen roles.
