Its Gotta Go !!!!

well im in traffic today trucks running great... stop at a light sit for a min or so then my truck just shut off!! like some one leaned over and just turned it off.. no spurattic running or chugging nothing just shut off. threw her in netural started right up and drove away... drove 1/4 mile truck running fine pulled in a parking lot stopped bout 10 sec later off she went... crunk back up ran rough for a sec then off it went again.. now it wont start. it cranks but wont even make a chugg.. had it towed to the dealer they ran a scan and a few little things befor they closed and said they think its my PCM... any thoughts or suggestions. let me know..

Could be the PCM, could be the IPR, CPS, fuel pump, plugged fuel filter, plugged filter screen in the tank, a host of possibilities. If the tach moves when cranking,than it probably ain't the CPS. The IPR, or the IPR O-rings, will cause it to die usually when it's warmed up, but will run fine when cold. As the oil gets thinner, it seeps past the o-rings, causing it to idle rough, or just shut off, however, it usually starts right back up. Hope it's something simple. Good luck.

My ipr was sticking a while back, similar symptoms. I was only able to pull a code for low ipr one time and it died off probably 10 times before I finally changed it out. I would change the cps then search for ipr and you could look into that. Not hard to change kinda a pia and pricey but you'll be runnin in a hour if that's the prob.

I'd try the CPS since it's cheap and easy to swap out.

Did it ever buck while driving it?

See if you can find out what codes the dealer pulled. Do you have a chip or tuner in your truck? P0605 tells you to replace the PCM if clearing the codes, or a reflash doesn't make it go away, but I have heard of a chipped truck throwing the 0605 before.

Any other symptoms (buck, jerk) you can tell us about? Did any of your dash lights not function normally when this happened (come on or not go off like normal)?

Didnt you have a 605 code last week when we were trouble shooting the fuel pump? If so then the PCM is probably bad. Call Jody at DP tuner on Monday, he has PCMs for reasonable prices and can flash it with a performance tune if you choose.

hey thanks for all the input guys my computer has been tied up sorry but no jerking or anything of that nature it just shut off with no warning... bad question whats the IPR??? and i had the CPS changed bout 6months back. i have an edge juice w/ attitude in their and the service tec said that chips can sometimes cause the PCM to fail.. they wernt real shure what it was but thats what they think... im bout to go up their and return the 08 f250 they lent me to test drive awww its so sickk. i may just end up buying it and sell my lemon but i might just make lemonade out of lemons haha let yall know what i find out thanks.. BAKE

I'd change out the cps again. It's easy and they can go out after 10 years or ten days.

ok well just got back from the dealer and the mechanic said that when he tried to pull the codes it came up saying pcm was un readable or something like that. basicly he said the pcm was dead and couldent give any info... hes gunna check all the connections to it and what not it may just have a short.. question though??? could my edge juice be faulty or bad if so would this have caused it??? hes gunna try and unplug it and see what it dose. he also said that anything yall might think of to tell me and i will relay it to him. thanks guys throw me some feed back!!!

Did he check the fuse? Its shared with the cigarette lighter. If there's no power out of the lighter, there's no power to the PCM.

Doesn't the edge pull the stock program off the PCM and replace it with it's own programming?

I'd say step one should be to put the truck back to stock programming, which you may not be able to do if there's no communication with the PCM. Does the display on the edge work? If not, check the fuses as Curtis mentioned.
