heater hose flow question

1997 F350 7.3l Powerstroke

Which hose is the hot water leaving the water pump and which one is the return. My thought is it's the one coming off the front centre of the engine, the one going down the lower left side is the return. Is this correct?

I used to think so as well but I was also wrong. Hose at the top of the WP is the return and the hose from the passenger head is the supply

TJ you're not the only one. Even the Helms manual has it bass ackwards, they show it flows from the heater core to the head.

Ford PowerStroke Diesel Coolant Filter Installation

Take a kool-see at this sight and it will tell you everything you want to know about coolant filtration and which way everything flows.
