I have a 97 Offroad F150 and wanted some input on whether to get a shift kit or a gear change? Also how do I identify my automatic transmission? Please advise any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you are not happy with the performance improvement it provides to your transmission, then you are looking at a gear change. I don't know how that will affect your 'puter. They do not recommend installing a shift kit with a chip -and you don't need to.
The ID for your tranny is on the driver side door pillar. At the bottom toward the right TR= tranny. E is for the E40D.
No, I do not. How high are your current gears? And what are you looking for? If you are looking for 3.55 or lower I'd look at a salvage yard if they have them.
