Smoke?

I've had my PSD now for 4 months. Runs great, haven't had any issues (except the needle bearing killing my axle). Noticed about a week ago that it started smoking at start up. Never did it before. What is causing this? Should I be concerned? Thanks for the help.

No, it starts as usual. The smoke is white...maybe with a hint of blue.

The smoke you are seeing is unburned fuel..

You may have a faulty GPR, or more than just a few bad glowplugs..just a few things to throw out there.

OK...and that would only cause it to smoke at start-up? It doesn't smoke any other time, just the first start of the day.

Yes, because that's when it's coldest, and not fully burning the fuel.

A small amount of white smoke on start up is ok... But if it lasts more then a few sec.s you have a problem... Any chance of an SES light???

I'd bet that since you aren't having any difficulty getting it started, you probably have a few bad glowplugs.

I've never had to change mine out, but this page may help:

Ford diesel 6.9 7.3 IDI

That site is directed as help for the old 7.3 IDI but it explains how to ohm or test light each glow plug to see which ones are malfunctioning.

Edit: another helpful page http://www.intellidog.com/dieselmann/tech.htm
