I ran across a '74 HiBoy for sale yesterday. Body is mostly straight, some rust at the lower cab corners, paint mostly nonexistent. Bed appeared to have a crappy brush-on liner. Interior had a blanket across the seat so I assume it's toast. No obvious puddles on ground beneath it, but not sure how long it had been sitting there. There was a rock wedged underneath the downhill side of one of the rear tires which may or may not mean anything. Pretty much about what you would expect from a 34 year old truck.
Window placard says it has a rebuilt 428 which I know was never available in trucks. Wheels were aftermarket aluminum with many missing lug nuts - as many as three missing per wheel. The wheels had clearly been previously installed with a flange-style lugnut (like on my Excursion), but the lugnuts in use here were the tapered style. I'm not a lugnut expert, so I'm not sure if these are interchangeable or not. In any case, I tend to be very leery of the overall maintenance record of a vehicle when I see something like this.
Asking $5500.
Does anyone have a guess as to the value of this thing? Or maybe a source to lookup? I've not been in the market for one of these and certainly don't need one, but if the price were right, who knows?
If its a real 428 Id say 1500 min (thats worth more than the truck). If there are receipts for the rebuild then add more to the value. Add maybe 200 if the wheels are nice and in "new" condition. How are the tires? Any other new parts like suspension? What is demand for trucks like in your area?
Pics would be nice, I know. I drove by it and stopped to take a quick look, didn't have my camera.
Wheels were OK, nothing special. Tires were newer Kumho AT's, 315/75-16 if I recall correctly. Had a lot of tread left on 'em.
I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought had it not been for the possible 428 and the fun one could have with that. The issue of parts has definitely crossed my mind. If the rest of the truck was in great shape I could always swap something more modern in, but then why buy a 428 in the first place?
I was thinking if I could get it for $1500-$2000 it might make a fun project.
