I did a search on here, but nothing seemed to help. It is on an 86 F-150 with a 302 and was originally behind an AOD (now behind a T-18). It says Borg Warner all over it. It is aluminum I believe, and the tag reads: D196 21345-21 under which reads 249347 E3TA 6B or 8. May not be exactly accurate on these as it isn't easy to read under the truck. It has manual lock in hubs and the shifter reads 4Hi 2Hi N 4Lo. Also, what is the difference between married and divorced? This particular one bolts directly to the tail housing of the T-18/AOD. Also, it would be helpful if anyone could tell me if this transfer case will be a direct bolt up to a ZF S5-42 as this will be the new tranny.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Thanks guys. At least I have some information now. It amazes me how quickly answers come when questions are posted on here. Lots of people willing to help out I guess.
Thanks again.
From what I've seen, 1/2 ton or not didn't have anything to do with whether the truck got a 1345 or a 1356. After the NP 208 was discontinued sometime in the 1986 model year, trucks and Broncos got the 1345. Sometime around 1989 or 1990 they started showing up with the 1356. I've never seen a 90 or newer truck with a 1345.
I also say it's a B-W 13-45 based on the tag numbers. Your two options for t-cases in 1986 were the B_W 13-45 and the NP 208 (New Process). The Np case housing is basically smooth, while the B-W case has fins all over it. It is a "married' type t-case, meaning it bolts directly to the transmission (or tranny/t-case adapter). A "divorced" t-case like the older NP 205's have a short driveshaft between the tranny and t-case. Finally, the B-W 13-45 should bolt right up to the ZF-series t-case adpater. The problem you may run into will be in the shifter linkage, since most styles of linkage are specific to a tranny/t-case combo. So, your original shift linkage designed for the 13-45/AOD is likely different than for a manual tranny like the T-18 or ZF S-42/S-47 manuals. May have to find adonor linkage set-up from one of those manual combos to work, or modify your existing linkage by shortening/extending it. It's fairly easy to swap the main bar out for one of a different length. But the bracket that bolts to the tranny or t-case adapter is where you may run into a problem. JSM84
