Ford didn't officially have a "5/8 ton" or "Heavy half" setup like GM did, but they did have a high payload F-150 in this body style.

It has a set of overload springs on top of the main spring packs with a set of brackets on the frame that the overload only touches after enough load has been put on the main springs.

The GVWR on these trucks was around 6100 lbs in a regular cab long bed 4x2 setup.

The only "Heavy Duty" half ton Ford had was in the early 1970's.

The 1971 "Heavy Duty" F-100.

Which was basicly an F-150 in later years.

In the eighties, the sales brochure shows a few variations on on some models, two diff weight capacities...you'd have to see it to understand me. I know mine is the heavier of two.

"Heavy Half" is a GM term. Ford did make a light duty F250 that would probably be considered the same thing.

The gvw is also on the data plate in the door jamb. Remember GVW includes all allowable payload.

IIRC the 6050 GVW rating of the F150 excluded it from certain regulation and let it run on unleaded gas as opposed to the F100 (< 6,000 GVW) that had to run it. That made it a "heavy duty half ton".

Never did figure out a justification for the "light duty three quarter ton" ... F250LD except in the late nineties when they didn't even call it that and it had a heavier frame, 7700 GVW, 3/4T 5.4, 3/4T tranny and 3.73 gears.

ford had a 6250 GVWR option on the F150 that did not make use of the overload springs (I happen to own 2 of them)

since the truck weighs about 4250 shipped (133"wb 4x4 auto), its technically a 1 ton, as long as that 'ton' includes the driver, fuel and payload.

As a purist, you may say that ....

If you were a realist you'd have to admit that Ford also had an equivalent truck, one that escaped or eluded the EPA regs of the time.
