Ok, am changing rims and tires off my 73 SCS, should I keep the factory 16.5 rims?
I have 7 of them, guy gave me 2 extra's and the spare. And on F350's FYI maybe it is a Dana70 thing, but the drivers side rear tire is @#$%%^* LEFT-HANDED threads. I am debating changing the studs out,,, or seeing if I can find left handed mag lug nuts.....
Quick question... my 79 F-350 has the 16.5's on it also. Im wondering, will 16's fit over the massive front calipers? I can get a good deal on some 16" alloys off a 97 stroker, but looking at my wheels, im hesitant if they will fit, or provide the clearance around the calipers need for mud and stuff. I know new F-150s have like a 1/4" between the wheel and the caliper (w/ 16's) and the mud and gravel that settles in the wheel, grinds and scars the hell out of the wheel and the calipers.
... are you 100% sure on that? im pretty sure the switch was made after the 97 model year. --to 97 should be 8x6.5 while 98+ is 8x117mm. I cold be wrong but...
Yep, Hairy,,, they'll fit, I put some 16x8 Black n Alum DC-1's on it last night! Looks good, fits good, Of course it looks funny now, compared to the MASSIVE 12.00 x 16.5's that were on the rear, and I now have 235/85/16s on it now! Of course, once I replace the headgaskets, those 235's should smoke off fairly quickly! and make room for some fatter meats. Mine is a 73,,,, is it the same caliper? They are beefy blocks of steel!

I thought Dodge was notorious for having reverse threads on the lug studs. Could it be that some where along the line a Dodge D70 was swapped into your truck? It sounds phishy to me....Not that it matters. I swapped one into my short box and changed out the studs. They are expensive little boogers.....
my 79 f350 has the same "reverse threads my tire shop says the studs from the pass side should fit so i may change them out or leave them "as is" its a very good theft deterent as i hoped and jumped on my tire bar till i was blue thought they were just seized up!!
regurds joe
My F350 dump has the left hand threads on one rear side too. Thats just the way they did it. I was told so they stay tight. That guy mite have full of ***** tho. Keep the old rims just in case.
Yep, I was putting the rims and tires on it, and that left rear,,,, well some jack#@$ put them on SOOO tight I couldn't get them off,,,, going left! Course by then I had 2 so friggin tight it was all I could do to get thosun's off. THEN I looked closely at the studs, and lo and behold at the end of each one was a little L ,,,, so then I KNEW it was Miller time!
I had heard that they were supposed to help keep em tight by being left handed threads,,,, Somebody with a bit of paper on the wall probly made a mint off of that idea..
