2000 Ranger Auto Tranny

Hello, my buddy has a 2000 4x4 ranger, with the automatic, and it needs a rebuild/replace. I only know what he told me, as I havent looked at the truck, but he was wondering what transmission it is, and if anything else uses the same one. Also, how long to drop the transmission out? This would be his first time doing so, and not sure on what hes doing exactly.

The tranny is either a 4R44E or a 5R55E, depending on the motor. The 4.0L gets the 5R55E.

What are the engine options for these then? I thought he said it was a v6, but cant be sure.

Have him look at the 8th number (actually, its a letter) of the vin, thats the engine type
A-2.3 140 ci
C-2.5 152.7 ci
T-2.9 177 ci
U-3.0 183 ci
X-4.0 241 ci
E-4.0 244 ci
P-5.0 302 ci
