Greetings, and...

I'm glad to be back. I was a member back in 2003-2005. Wife, 2 kids, and a house later I'm back on the F100/300 I6 build. Been gathering parts all summer given my gracious OT paychecks and 'tis perfect weather for working outdoors here in southern VA.
It took most of the summer because I refused to pay the price that some of these parts were fetching. Here's the list:

Ditched the 2:74 to 1 rear end for a 3:73 (PROS and CONS on that with a 3 speed). Neck breaker but tops out at 60/70 mph and that's screaming.

Finally broke the wobbly worn out shifter tube after 25 years of use ($84 through FOMOCO if you ever need one).

eBayed an Offenhauser C series for an even $200 to the door and EFI manifolds w/ down pipe for another $150.

Then came the dreaded "carb icing" issues so I rejoined and began my search. Drill and tap? Homemade plates? Reuse EGR? Options, options, otpions. I'd like to thank 1982FORDF100 for his posts and pics especially when he identified the plate used as being from a 60's thunderbird. I've spent the 2 days searching the various ways people list items on eBay. I mean hours scrolling through 50+ pages and through 2861 items. If you want to run a two barrel on your build, eBay is slam full of those plates. There has only been one 4 barrel plate listed in the past 10 days and they are no longer $12. It was listed at 9:00 pm with a buy now option which I excitedly clicked at 9:09. $28 plus shipping.

Tallied I'm at a little over $400 and I've never left the house. All's left is a gasket and a carburetor (exhaust too but I'll fake that until next years inspection ). Budget says Edelbrock at $277 I just hope it will fit which ever way I'll have to mount it front to back or side to side so to speak. Anybody know?

A lot of great information here and I enjoy reading most all of it. Will post pictures as soon as I figure out how. Until then, I'm sick of searching (at least for now), can I get some insight on carburetor(s) and moutning options?

Thanks one and all,

Doug

Couldn't stand it. Did another search and to put it simply...looks like anything goes. Glad to see some Edelbrocks mounted every which way. That will certainly help. I've never been good with carburetors. I've asked countless people to "teach" but they say it is difficult to do. They also say Holleys are expensive and require a great deal of attention compared to a set it and forget it Edelbrock. I know of one Performer series 500 that was bolted to a 64 Impala 283 in 1985...no problems. Sold me.

Can't wait to answer these blood boiling questions:

"Why are you spending all this money on your truck...it's just a 300."

"You're ordering a 4 barrel for your truck...don't you have a 300?"

"Why didn't you just buy a used 302, you'd been better off"

Those were asked at the local Advance store where the majority of employees drive "tuners". Fast and Furious with a simple mod of the muffler.

Ya'll ever get that?

I get a lot of "how can you have dual exhaust if it's a straight 6?" Trust me though, the 300 is a wonderful motor; you won't be disappointed.

About the carburetor mounting issue - I had some interesting challenges, and the pictures are in my gallery.
