Newbie-er with problem

I got myself a 1982 ford f150 with a 351w. What i didn't like was that it had a 2barrrel carb and got 8.5 mpg, so i set out to find a 4barrel intake and carb. I installed an Edelbrock performer RPM, and am in the process of building a holley 750cfm model 3310. In the meantime, so that i could drive the truck i put the old 2barrel back on the truck using a 2barrel-4barrel adapter. the problem as some of you may have guessed, is that when i drive it i am stuck in 1st gear. i can column shift into 2nd, but when i am in drive i am in 1st.
the problem is with the transmission kickdown/shaft the kickdown only moves about 1 1/4" on the carburetor. The movement obviously isn't enough. I searched edelbrock, holley, lokor and all over my town for some sort of adapter. or bracket. I was wondering if i was the only person on the planet that ever converted their 351w to a 4barrel. now i am wondering if i can't find a longer arm to replace the one on the transmission.
Anyway i'm screwed and i really like this truck but i can't have it with a 2barrel, how can i fix my throttle kickdown problem?

Remove the kickdown rod completly and shift down to 2nd manualy if you need passing gear untill you get your 4bbl rebuilt and installed...It wont hurt anything at all with the removed

well today i fabricated my own kickdown, using a walmart brand bycicle brake cable and have decided that it has nothing to do with the kickdown, remarkibly the cable i made works perfectly. but i still have the problem, i think it has something to do with a vacuum of some kind, since i pretty much plugged all the vacuum lines. if anyone knows anything about the transmission on an '82 f150 351w, let me know i don't know what kind of tranny it is because the truck is across town, and i havn't looked at the VIN.

Well that info changes everything.. Sounds like you plugged the vaccum line from the modulator..The hose for that comes up by the trans dipstick and goes into a junction at the cowel, then it goes into the rear your intake in about the same area that the vaccum line for your brake booster is attached..Should fix everything for you...if not then you may need a new modulator but im not thinking so

yeah i was thinking that was the problem, but the old vacuum stack (or empire of vacuum city) i think recieved vacuum from all the ports whereas on the new intake manifold has a bung on only one port. i dunno if it will provide enough vacuum for them both, but i will see and let you know what happens.
