Red Fuel
So how they know if tis offroad diesel and not something else? Cause I dump a quart of ATF in my front tank every time I fill up (lubrication additive for the IP and injectors), and guess what color the fuel comes out if I decided to drain my fuel-water separator. It ain't dark red of course, more like pink, but tis still reddish - how they gonna tell if it ain't no offroad diesel? Cause I don't even know where they sell offroad diesel round here!
If you are willing and able to get your hands dirty *and* you have an education, you can do anything. Without both, you're second rate IMHO. Of course, there are a lot of notable exceptions...the "school of hard knocks" counts as an education too.
Fuel dipping is up to the individual state to do. The Federal Govt. use to pay state agencies for every tank they dip and more if they found red fuel. They now longer pay the agencies to dip so agencies don't dip as often, according to FL DOT. They do not randomingly dip they have to a reason to dip. Tanks in back of truck not good enough to dip according to a Sgt. I know, besides he says with all the new officers they have he dosen't enev think they know how. Take it for what is worth I'm not taking a chance the risk is to great. IMHO.
You don't want to know how many engineers I have to tell they don't know what they are talking about.
In my opinion, most of those professional fields like that should be require to do field work for at least one year before they get a degree.
1/2 the blueprints we get are not worth the paper they are printed on.
As for the fuel, the federal goverment is broke.
The states are looking for new sources of revenue and ways to collect the sources they have now.
At 50 cents per gallon, one big truck with 300 gallon tanks is 150 dollars out of the states pocket.
Your pickup with 34 gallons is 17 dollars.
Write the big truck a ticket for 5000 dollars.
Write the pickup a ticket for 5000 dollars.
Now if the catch 2 big trucks, that is 10,000 dollars.
If they catch 10 pickups, that is 50,000 dollars.

Dave, Theres more to being caught and getting fined $5,000. They will check your past fuel records and back tax you as they did to a company in Delaware Co. southeastern Pa. a few weeks back. Almost put them out of business.
Better would be spending a few years starting at the bottom and working up through the jobs that actually carry out a design...
Sorry, its hard, but I'll stop ranting now before its too late
As for running red transmission fluid in your fuel, that is asking for a headache.
I am sure that they could send a sample off for chemical analysis, and probably tell there was transmission fluid in the fuel.
But depending on how close the transmission fluid dye is to the red used in fuel, that may or may not get you off the hook.
I can also see your truck impounded until they figure it out.
Innocent until proven guilty, well maybe.
Then again, trying to conceal the fact you are breaking the law, when the results come back from the lab and it shows off road diesel is in the tank, I am going to bet there may be an extra charge or two added to the non taxed fuel fine.
Tax evasion, which is what running red fuel actually is.
It is also a fact, when they bust drug dealers, they do twice as much time for tax evasion than they do for selling illegal drugs.
And the tax evasion is what gets the vehicles, houses and other property siezed on top of the jail time.
Way back up the thread, remember who I said does the checks here?
WV Department of Tax and Revenue, Criminal Investigation Division.
PS also don't forget, about 1/2 that highway use tax is state, the other half is federal.
Federal tax evasion...not me, I like my house and land.
I have years worth of fuel reciepts with the odometer reading written on every one of them when I bought the fuel.
So proving all my fuel was highway use fuel would be no problem for me.
Janurary 4, 1997 I bought 30.02 gallons of fuel for 45 dollars, price per gallon was 1.499 and the truck had 157,451 miles on the odometer.
My average mileage for the tank before that was 14.26 MPG, I drove 428 miles on it.
