Total Lift

For my SD, if I put an 8" lift with 37" tires, what would be the exact total increase in height. Reason I am asking is b/c here in Maryland, my bumpers can't exceed 28".

Thanks

Your rear bumper will most likely be over 28" with that combo.

8" will be an 8" increase
37s will be approx 2" increase (depending on which stock tires you had on your 05).

Total of approx. 10" over stock.

Won't the rear have less lift than the front. I took a tape measure and checked that current rear bumper height stands at 21.5". Do you know if the hitch counts as part of the bumper for lift laws? If so, then the rear is about 17" in height from the ground.

Thanks again

Don't know if they'd count the hitch.....I suppose you could try and argue it.

But yeah, the 10" would be in the front....probably 8" increase in the rear.

Give me a minute and I'll measure my 01 that has a 8.5" lift and 38s.

8 lift require more than asked for

Would the 8" lift cause more problems such as cutting brake lines, etc or extending them because the chassis will be a lot higher from the axles?

Thanks

You can get extended length SS lines to swap in, no cutting or relocating if you go that route.

Shim the carrier bearing in the rear and lengthen the front shaft.

In maryland you're also not required to have a rear bumper. If you still have the blocker beam, that is where the height measurement would come from, which is a pretty low point on the front.. I'll have to look up the code, but from what I hear, most Troopers enforce the headlight law, which states you can't be over 54" to the center of the headlight.

Question More than I thougt

I guess I am asking more than I bargained for in an 8 inch lift. I guess I should look at a 6. What size of tires and wheels would be good for a 6. How about regearing? There wouldn't be a need for the SS lines or cutting required right for the 6" lift?

Thanks for all the help

What is a blocker beam? I see that you are from Maryland...do you know of any places where I can take my truck to get lifted?

Thanks in advance
