well on my quest for rebuild kits and such to well obviously rebuild my 77's c6 tranny (i used the search feature and wow i found some good sites for parts) I came across a thing called Transgo Ford c6 full manual shift kit it says it gives me control of all the shifting well can someone explain how this works and well tell me how i would do the actual shifting cuz i dont understand how i would shift it up or down gears now...hopefullly someone makes sense of this lol
The shift kit will turn your valve body into a manual valve body, this means whatever gear you have the shifter in that is the gear the trans will be in. You will have to put the shifter in low at every stop and move up through the gears during acceleration, you will be in control of passing gear also.
Personally I would not like to lose the automatic part of my automatic transmission. The C6 is a great transmission, I would just leave it alone and build it with small upgreads like Alto clutches and steels, a good band and a big servo.
The C6 will start off in 2nd if you put the shifter in 2nd, so the only benefit I see with a manual valve body would be the option to start off in 3rd, and why would you want that?
