Hi I have a 02 f350 dually. When I am backing up it feels like the front end is catching. When I brake my truck pulls to the right. Any ideas will help.
More detail please. 2WD or 4? When you backup, are you turning one direction or another. does it care if you're turning? pulling upon brake application usually indicates one side working better than the other. could be frozen slides on the calipers, frozen pistons in the calipers, defective brake line(s).
Jack the front end up and see whats turning and how smooth. check for loose bearings, tie rod ends, etc. Could even be something in the rear brakes causing it to dive one way or another. A little research, a little info, a little time, we'll find it. Barney
It really only happens in 2wd when backing and turning. when I am going down the road and hit the brakes it pulls to the right. When it is in 4wd it binds on tight turns which I think is normal. I have checked to make sure I am out of 4wd and it is fully disengaged. I still have this problem. I have had the right balljoints replaced and had a very good allignment shop check it during an allignment and they said I had one ball joint tightened to tight. They also said I had a drivers side hub going bad. They said they fixed the over tightened ball joint. I really don't know what else to check.
Are you sure it is in the front end? The reason I ask is the posi in my truck went out, and the symptom that I had was that you could feel the clutches slipping when you were backing up and turning. You could feel it under the whole truck, so you could possibly think it was the front end.
In 4WD the u-joints in the front axle bind a bit in full cramp turns, I believe that is what you are referring to.
I agree with kbeefy on the brake pull issue, it is more than likely brake related.
