How hard is it to put under coating on my truck? Should I put it on the axles, should I sand them down first? And how do I apply it(with a paint brush)?
Thanks
When I did my truck I wire brushed it then sanded it. Washed it really good then rust primered it with a spray gun, although a brush would work fine, then used black tremclad. Been like that for a year and still looks great.
If you look at the pictures in my gallery, i have completely rust-proofed my truck. I bought some paint(about 100 dollars a gallon) from hirschauto.com. This stuff is called miracle paint, and for good reason. I found this stuff because the guys on TRUCKS! use it all the time(the TNN tv show if u've ever heard of it). This stuff is the best paint i've ever seen. Once cured and sealed over the metal, it is rust proof. I used a buffer with a wire brush attachment, and a die-grinder with a wire brush attachment. With this paint, you don't have to get rid of the rust, it is better if u paint over it. However, you want to get rid of the flaky rust, and clean it with some degreaser and water. I painted it by hand with a paint brush. However, you can spray it if you wanted. I did my frame, suspension, body, axle, everything on a gallon. I also used it on my tailgate, to match my herculiner. I didn't want to have a rough texture on my tailgate, so i used this paint. It is tough and hard to seriously scratch for a regular paint. If you don't know already, one of paints worst enemies is DOT 3 brake fluid. It will just eat paint. Well, not this paint, and i've tested it. It is very chemical resistant. I highly recommend this product, it is good stuff. It doesn't matter if you brush or spray, personal preference. I preferred brush because of overspray problems. You can also get the rust remover/metal prep spray that will turn the existing rust(still should get rid of scalding rust) into a zinc phosphate coating. Good luck with your project.

I just bought a can of spray on under coating and sprayed it on my front axle, and on some of the frame. It looks preaty good and will protect from rust. I think I will only need about 2 more cans, to do the entire bottem of my truck.
I sanded my underside down and spray painted it, and keep an eye on it. The problem with undercoating can be if it cracks it will hold all the road gunk and salt in place and give the rust a nice little home.
Now that I have read Mustang's post I think I will buy the paint and use it. By the way GT221 how many gallons did you use?
I recently purchased a 97' Expy,,frame was kinda rusty,,I drove it up on blocks of 6x6 oak, pressure washed it,,let it dry for 2 or 3 days.
Then I picked up 3 bottles of Plasti-coat Rust converter at ( Western-Auto), It was brush on type( they do make it in spay, but they were out) I went to Sears bought a $6.00 spray bottle and a cheap brush, put the Plastic-Coat in the bottle, and srayed and brushed it on the frame ( after some wire brushing and blowing off with air), it turns the rust black and then they suggest to prime it, then top coat it,( I used Plastic-coat black sandable primer, and cheap wal-mart gloss black for top coat 4 cans each) I used Wal-mart paint because 5 yrs ago i built a rack for my truck and it still looks good today !
Good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,Mark ,,,
PS,,I have sean undercoating crack and peel off leaving good places for moister, salt, mud,and rust to get in,, Now if they sold Rust-Proofing Like zeibart, or Rusty-Jones that would be different,!!
