Window Motor Questions
Hi,
I have a 1989 F-150 XLT Larait and just replaced the passanger side door window motor. I looked at the old one today,took it apart and checked it out. The three plastic ***** were split in half and the shaft was frozen. I took the back of the motor off and cleaned everything out put some oil on the back shaft bushing and freed it up.The brushes were still good,however I could not get to the shaft bushing because the plate that the brushes sit on is rivited on. Put everything back except the plastic ***** and it ran good off the truck battery. My question is can I just get some round 3/8" steel ***** and use them and will this motor work for either door or only the side it came off of? I'm trying to have a spare motor for next time. Thanks!

I had one motor completely die, and the other blew up the plastic parts inside. I said heck with it and bought 2 replacement units for $50 each. Didnt feel like messing around with a rebuild.
My windows set a speed record for raising and lowering. Not sure why they go up & down so fast, but it works for me.

I wouldn't use the ball bearings......
I just used the rebuild kit from Advanced Auto. $20. I would've replaced just the rubber cylinders, but didn't know their measurements or what they even looked like. Mine were in pieces.
I would advise against the ball bearings as it looks like they are designed as shock absorbers. There is no upper or lower limit switch in the motor, so the rubber absorbs the shock and keeps you from breaking the window or stripping the plastic gear.
I posted some pics and basic measurements. If the driver's side ever goes out, I will just replace the rubber with something similar, now that I know what's in there. FYI

The nylon/plastic bushings are available online, I bought a kit off Ebay last year for $0.99... the postage cost more! Worked great.
