i have a 96 f-250 with the ifs right now i know i need some new parts up front becuase my steering is very very slopy and all that my question is my buddy has a danna 44 with 3.77 gear ratio and i want to know what my rear end has in it and what all i need to do or buy to put this axle in thanks
well for one a dana 44 will probably be 5 lug so thats gonna be one problem. if your beams are on leaf springs then your looking at a fairly easy swap pretty much trash all the ifs and drop the solid axle in this still wont fix your steering though as the problem probably isnt the ifs its probably bad ball joints on the steering. honestly without actually seeing the axle its hard to tell you what its gonna take.
It isnt a straight up swap, as the front frame on the 80 and up trucks have a wider frame up front. Your best best is to see where the slop is at in your front end. Your front axle is an IFS dana 50 rather than a heavy duty 44. but it isnt the axle that is the problem it is all the rubber pieces at the pivots of the IFS on the frame of the truck and metal ball joints on the end of the axle. Also, the steering box and develop slop as well.
where would i find any of the pecies to fix all that would i need a new steering box as well and also are you saying that becuase the danna 44 is only a 5 lug i can not use it cause i do have 8 lug now and im not buying new rims forget that haha thank guys for you help!!!
Ford still carries some, Bronco Graveyard, autoparts stores, and sponsers of this web site. But only check to see where the broken pieces are and replace those with play in them. The heavy duty D44 front ends from the late seventies were 8 bolts when on an F250, the ones from F150s had a different set up for coils rather than leaf springs.

What truck is the Dana 44 from?
It's almost certainly going to be less work, time, and money just to fix what's wrong with your truck instead of swapping in a new front axle. For starters, your steering problems probably don't have anything to do with the axle, unless it happens to need ball joints.
