1st Blackstone report

Just following up here with the experts on my first Blackstone oil report. Everything was good to go, except for a 3% fuel dilution. They said don't worry, yet anyway, that the next analysis will allow a better call on that issue.

My question is this: should I react, or sit tight?

She is running fine, I got a "miss" of some kind climbing Wolf Creek Pass, but no codes showed up and it never happened the rest of the trip. I am at 79000+ miles now.

Thanks for any input or ideas.

How many miles driven on your oil since the last change (OCI)? Also - did you drive it on the highway for 15 minutes and get it good and hot before sampling the oil?

The oil had 5000 miles on it, and it had been driven for over 1/2 hour, so it was good and hot.

What do you think about this ...........

Take your next sample at 3000 miles. If you have a Fumoto valve, just drain a quart and then sample. Send it off and add the quart back in. Make your decision based on the results you get.

I usually catch two samples when I change my oil. If I get a bad result on the first, I can always send the second sample to another lab just to see if it is real. In fact, my last Blackstone result came back at 2% fuel - never before had one been over 0.5%. I am sending my second sample to Polaris to verify the result. It also came back at 7 ppm lead which I want to verify as well.

Mark, thanks for the advice. I am not a mechanic type, I do what I can, the simple oil and filter changes. So, I will get an interim sample, good thought.

Thanks again,
Dan

Edit - when I say add the quart back in, I meant add a quart of new oil back in to bring it back to full. In the meantime (as Blackstones said), I do not think one report at 2% is a situation to get worried over at this time.

One other thing - if you really are getting an increase in fuel dilution, I would go light on the fuel additives, maybe even stop adding them, for the next 3000 miles. Some of them can be hard on internal engine parts if fuel dilution of the oil brings them in contact with the bearings, etc.
