I have a major electrical issue going on right now with my 2002 F-150 4.2L 2WD truck. First a few weeks ago I went out to my truck in the morning, started it and turned on the windshield wipers...they would not work. I turned the truck off, restarted it and they worked fine, thought nothing of it. This past weekend we got very heavy rain and when I got in my truck to move it, the blower was running. I turned off the blower and started it up with no problem. A few hours later I went out to my truck to head to the store and the keyless entry would not work. I then tried to start it and though it was turning over fine it would not start at all. I disconnected the battery thinking maybe if the computer reset it would be fine. 30 mins later I hooked the battery up and noticed that all the interior lights were now on. I started the truck fine but the lights remained on and would not shut off. I sat in it for a few mins and noticed that the lights would surge occasionally along with the radio. I also noticed that the theft light on the dash was flashing as well. I turned the truck off and notice that the lights remained on and I could hear a clicking noise which seemed to be coming from the ABS. I decided to run it some more with the heat on hoping that maybe some moisture causing the problem my dry out. After the truck ran for about 20 mins I started hearing what sounded like the starter engaging periodically. at that point I shut the truck off. I checked all fuses and ground points that I could find and everything appears to be in tip top shape. Can somebody please inform me as to what is going on and how can I fix it. As of now my truck is in the driveway with the battery disconnected so that the interior lights don't drain it. HELP!!!!!
I wish I could tell you excatly what is wrong. But I can't.
Fact is, i doubt anybody can.
I suspect you have loose connection or water in a connector somewhere.
Sad to say, I know of no quick shortcuts in cases like this. It all becomes a matter of digging in and searching until you find the problem.
Maybe somebody will come along and prove me wrong.
That would be great, and I'd be all to happy to have been wrong!
Otherwise, I can only wish you luck and hope it is not too difficulty to find the problem.
You might want to check your GEM module to see if water is getting to it. If so you will need to get your windshield resealed and possibly replace the GEM module.
ok Fire240 I have been doing some reading all over this website and others and it seems that you are most likely right, the GEM is the problem. Now my question is does anyone have any idea where I can get one....do I need to get it from the dealership? I prefer to do any work to my truck myself as i am sure most of you do. Also I am trying to minimize my cost. Any suggestions?
You would have to get it at the dealer if I am correct. The new GEM module will have to be programed by the dealer. Last time I checked they were a bit pricey.
Thanks for the help Fire I will let you all know the price and how it works out, after my hair is on the floor and my wallet is empty that is...GRRRRRRRRRR!
