Factory alarm?
Factory alarm?
Out of the blue my Ex's horn starts beeping sitting in my driveway....is there an impact sensor of some kind that the kids playing in the street might have set off?
I shut it off with the remote, but haven't checked it out to make sure she don't have a broken window or something...
Maybe I'll run out and check on her now that the kids are asleep and settled down.

Excursions don't have alarms. Our "security" system is the key. It disables the ignition if it isn't used.
You can lock the doors and bust out all the windows, pull up the locks and nothing will happen.
You may have a weak battery in one of your key fobs. Maybe it triggers the PANIC button.

It is possible like I said that you have a passive security (alarm) system. When the system is armed, typically by the drivers power lock or the factory key fob, if you unlock the door manually and open it, the alarm sounds.
This is so common we were told to check every vehicle with a keyfob in school.

Panic Button on the remote key fob
Usually what causes this is someway somehow the Panic Button on the remote key fob got pressed.
Example:
Removing you pants or jacket with the keys in the pocket.
Putting the keys in your pocket or purse.
Throwing your keys on the table or dresser.
Moving the keys across an area.
Setting down with your keys in your pocket.
Horseing around with your keys on your person.
If a child looks at the keys the red button will get their attention
The list will go on and on. By now you will get the idea.

What I want to know is why Ford owners think any vehicle with the keypad and key fob have alarms? The only alarm you have is the "panic alarm" if you press the red button on the key fob. This is basically for old folks who are in the process of getting mugged while walking from the drug store to their parked car. To have anything even remotely resembling a real alarm, you have to have it added to the vehicle.
I think it's possible because I have seen other vehicles with and without keypad/fobs that do have alarms from the factory. The only test I have learned to find out is to lock the car and open the door from the inside. Some models of vehicles have a key movement sense in the driver's lock cylinder. It can tell if the key has been moved and will disarm the factory systems.
It is feasible to have an "alarm" without a keypad/fob, therefore it's is possible that the excursion might have had this feature available.

What would it take for Ford add it in?
The most of the hardware and some of the software is in place. I am not very up on firmware, but I think it would be relatively easy for there to be a line of code placed saying if the doors are lock electronically (either by the door button or key fob) and the door is subsequently opened it should sound the panic. Simple if then.
