Truck Wont Start If Doors Are Unlocked
Hi Guys,
So I just got my truck back from getting the trans rebuilt and now if I leave the doors unlocked the truck will not start unless I lock and unlock with the remote. The shop had disconnected the batteries and must have reset some setting on the keyless entry system.
So again if I park the truck and lock the doors when I go back and unlock the doors with the remote the truck starts right up. But if I park the truck and leave the doors unlocked and go to start the truck it will not start unless I push the unlock button on the remote.

I have an aftermarket anti-theft which was already installed when I bought it in 2006. If I turn the truck off and don't lock the doors and then disturb the truck in any manner, there is a relay under the instrument cluster which will start clicking fast, the LED on the steering column will flash really fast, and you cannot start the truck unless you go back through the lock-unlock sequence with the key fob. I love the way it disables the vehicle, but it's a real PITA when I'm working on the truck.
I also know that my VSM is ready to be replaced as well because I can no longer program an extra key fob, and my auto light functions are kaput. Replacing the VSM won;t fix my anti-theft issue, but could resolve the others, and it could be that YOUR VSM is either going or has already gone bad as well.

I have no idea who made it or installed it. It's an inconvenience at times, but generally doesn't really limit my use of the truck, so it's just been one of those things I've chosen to live with (and on rare occasions complain about) with no driving need to do anything about it. I only mentioned it above to back up what Denny said about how an aftermarket alarm can do weird things. Personally, I would be more quick to suspect the OP's GEM (I don't believe the VSM's came out in our trucks until '02).
I guess I ought to run by one of the local alarm/stereo shops just to have someone look it over and tell me what I have... that TUIT, though, has been lost for a while!

Check on the control module for it, the antenna for it, something has to be somewhere. I'm in the same boat you are, third owner, inherited aftermarket remote start/security system, name rubbed off of the fob's. I accidentally pressed the right formula on mine that the doors locked themselves after 30 seconds of inactivity. I found the name on the box (compustar or something) and found them on the www, called them and actually got a knowledgeable person who speaks fluent English and got things straightened out.

I have Ford security system in my 02 F250. If I remove the key and let it sit for 1 minute, it will disengage starting and the led on dash will blink. To start the truck, I have to unlock the doors on my FOB. This feature is set by setting a dip switch inside the security module.
After someone tried to steal my truck in Denver, I am happy to have this feature.

Okay so I wanted to update everyone. I was able to get it back to normal, after some research I found out that it was in "valet mode". To take it out of "valet mode" you have to press on the LED light that is suppose to be on the dash. Of course I had broke this LED switch a few years back and had to figure out how to cross the wires to get it to work. Also there is a black push button under the dash that you can push to override "valet mode" and you can then start the truck without having to push the unlock button.
Thanks to all for the Help!
