Just sold my TT this past Satruday. I pulled it across the country twice. I'm in full search mode of a used 5er now. My TT was set up with dual-cam sway bars and weight distribution. Didn't sway, but did float a bit when the big rigs come up on you. The real difference, IMO, is on the not so smooth roads. I've ridden in my Father's 99 CC PSD pulling a Gooseneck with 10k of alfalfa on it on middle of no where NM roads and it road like a dream. Couldn't imagine having that much weight drug by the bumper.
You guys have some nice rigs. When we do get a new RV it will be a 5er hands down. I have a topper on the back of the truck I will have to muscle off since it was all but 300 pounds.
The SandPiper we were looking at was 2100 hitch weight and I told my wife thats she have heavy taste. I don't want anything to heavy that its not fun to tow. I think I found one. Might go look at it Saturday.
Another good question for you guys. What kind of hitch you 5er guys running? I have 3 in mind. 1. Draw Tight 2. Reese 3. Valley I like the hitches that are mounted under the bed. The 3 I mentioned have only 4 holes in the bed and the hitch slides into them and latches. So when the hitch is out you only have 4 holes in bed. The Reese is the most $ at $1100 Draw tight at $940 and Valley even cheaper. I don't need a slider since I have a long bed
I got a 31 foot F-R Cherakee(for sale- going in classifieds) TT and use the Reese distribution hitch, no problems, rides great but not like the 5,ers like mentioned above. Reason i didn't go with the 5,er is because i didn't want any holes in the bed, good luck on your decision..

My uncle has a 30 ft gooseneck trailer on his Dodge( cummins and a 6spd nothings gonna break) usually its loaded with 9 tons of alfalfa and when we hit certain sections coming back from my grand parents fully loaded the trailer starts bucking like crazy.
Does your Dad have a turnover ball or something of the sort or is the ball welded to a plate and immovable?

And that is my ONLY problem. I also don't like the holes. I also don't like the rails that lay ontop the bed when not in use. Thats why I like the hitches I mentioned above. It just leave 4 holes with rubber graments around the hole for a nice clean look.
I know when I was looking for a truck and saw it had a 5th wheel hitch mounted on the bed, it mad me want to look the other way. But now my truck will be one of those trucks.

Hey Mike So you getting out of RV'ing or geting something differnt? Did you get to the Hershey show?
Well Since all we have ever had is TT I am going to have to say TT
Our first trailer was a small 26 Ft Eagle by Jayco. It towed like you had no Idea it was back there.
Our second Toy Hauler is a Weekend Warrior FSW 3200 Billet Edition Hence my Screen name. When we first picked it up in Los Angles and headed to San Diego it was one of the most terfing experience ever. We couldn't even stay in our lane and I think this was the First time my Dad was ever excited to see Grid lock traffic so he could slow down lol. But we learned the hard way that you need to have the 150 Gal water tanks filled to make it tow better. On the way home we got Air Bags that that helped a lot but what made the biggest differences was the Equalizer Hitch and move the Motor cycles and the Golf Cart Forward to give us more toung weight.

No, i didn't but i wanted too, to busy around here but one of my supervisors was going, he goes every year. To answer your question, looking to move up to a slide. I got the cap on my truck so not going with the 5er, but a good choice indeed. As per your other post, they do make great removable hitch,s now like you mentioned. Thats not bad looking at a rubber gromet filling the hole rather than the old systems. Just my 2 cents. Did you find a 5,er you liked..

B&W flip over ball. Very nice set up. Pulls like a dream.

I heard alot of great reviews and personal experiences about the Equilizer Hitch..... If I had a TT again I would definitely have to purchase that.
For the 5'er I bought the Pullrite superglide hitch since I have the short bed, but it was pricey $. Used the under the bed mounting kit so no rails in the bed, plus I bought some caps to put over the holes when the hitch is out, but I don't really need them. With this and the firestone air bags - it's a comfortable tow and no worries with the short bed.
Jason, that is just a fancy lever turner. $265 so you dont have to get out of the truck and pull a lever? You still have to actuate the trailer brakes and pull the truck forward a few inches.
I pull a 5th wheel with an extended cab short bed and don't have the "bucking", so don't know what's going on with your uncle's truck. My truck seems to like the weight in the bed and rides pretty smooth with the load.
