bad exaust manifolds?

i have a 68 f350 with a 360 ,and i aways see on e-bay exaust manifolds for the 360 and 390.my manifold gaskets are leaking and i need to replace them. my question is , are they so prone to cracking ,warping that before atempting to replace the gaskets that i should go ahead and order new manifolds?
this is my first 360 i always had 351w,m 300 six. i see alot of people dont like the 360 compared to the 390,but im just using it as a work truck not performance so its worth keeping the 360 wright? thanx in adance.

Well, all the FE's are prone to bad exhaust manifolds. Likely when you get yours apart you'll find that if they leaked for an extended time the mating surface will be eaten away and NO GASKET in the world will seal it up again (for good). If there is enough material, you can get them surfaced back to full flat face and re-install with NO GASKET. It doesnt take a gasket to seal stock manifolds "IF" the surfaces are good.

Good luck getting it apart, as usually ALOT of broken bolts is more the issue then the gasket.

As original.

There are two left side exhaust manifolds.

One is 1965/67 352 only (C5TZ-9431-B), the other is 1968/72 360/390.

The right side is the same 1965/72 F100/350 352/360/390.

Ford did not install exhaust manifold gaskets as original.

Only the heat shields were factory installed:

C1SZ-9448-E .. Left Side Heat Shield / C1SZ-9448-F .. Right Side Heat Shield.

The big PITA will be getting the bolts out without breaking. Soak them with a good penetrating oil for a few days. Good luck.

Good point, I'd heard all you guys talk about breaking those darn bolts off so I shot a squirt of PB blaster on them every day after work for a week and that weekend got all them little suckers off without breaking one of them. It was worth the effort.

If you our going to fix it and do it once do it right the first time so while your getting the heads done and refaced you should get the valves reworked with hard seats in it they don't have them yet, it's just a matter of time and it will. Also have your exh manifolds shaved. only cost me 25 bucks each a few yrs ago..Put new bolts grade 8 bolts with some type of graphite lube many types on the market on them in the exh manifolds . Don't make the misake of using to long of new bolts, use washers if needed to keep the threads from showing on the upper bolts end . Reason the threads will rust and gull up and break the bolt heads off 9 times out 10 when trying when there to long in the head..Most truck exh manifolds have a big T on them, car manifold our lighter duty and one of the outlet angle is not the same as a truck.. my 2cents

Truck manifolds all have engineering numbers on them.

1965/72 FE V8: The prefix will be one of these three: C5TE / C8TE / D0TE.

Any number without a T as the third digit of the prefix is a car manifold.

Examples: C3AE / C3SE / C8ZE / D1AE.
