It certainly could, and having your engine running in the right A/F ratio is best for the engine as well. If the motor runs lean for too long it can cause the engine to over heat a bit, and it can lead to damaging the o2 sensor. Since you pulled the plugs recently did you notice how they looked? Did they show any sign of the engine running lean on one side or another. I have seen an o2 sensor read lean after it gets all gunked up from the engine running too rich, which just causes the problem to get even worse.
Finding vaccum leaks can be a pain. I would be tempted to replace the o2 sensor first and see how it runs. If the problem remains, then you know where you need to go up stream to the engine. Dirty injectors and low fuel pressure can cause the engine to run lean as well.
ya it has been runnnig a bit hot...well i did a bit of research and i found that the vacuum switch explains everything thats happening mind you it could be anything else to do with the vacuum too how should i check this stuff? just feel around the parts like an air leak or what?
p.s. im gonna pull the catalytic converter so i will find out the condition of the O2 sensor then
Use an unlit propane torch. The vacuum will suck the propane in and you'll hear the RPMs go up when it does. You can also use a smoke machine if you have access to one, this is how shops do it.
ok so i just put a new O2 sensor into it took a third of my paycheck haha but im gonna cross my fingers and hope it solves the problem thanks for all your help guys
