Hi All
t's been awhile since my last post. Sorry. I have an 03 Ford fx4 Diesel Truck which I Love and its time for some new Brakes. I have pulled some heavy loads in the past and believe I did not adjust the trailer brakes right whch has caused to much wear on my breaks. I believe this because now when I reach a red light or Stop the truck will bounce. I don't want to kill my wallet but I would like some decent brakes and rotars. Any good recomendation's out there. Thanks Wade
I've only had to do mine once and that was at 60k. I am at 90 now and they are still doing great. I tow quite a bit. I think ford did a great job with our brakes. I used OEM for the first go-round. I will use OEM for rotors/calipers if necessary later on, but I will probably go with hawk for pads.
I have not replaced the brakes on my truck yet (low miler), but on my Mustang I've had really good luck w/ Hawk pads. The stock rotors are fairly substantial. If you went to a bigger rotor, you'd need different mounting for (or different alltogether) calipers. Or if you even went to a stock sized vented or cross drilled rotor it would likely accelorate pad wear. My suggestion is to buy new pads, get your rotors turned (or replaced if not enough left) & properly adjust your trailier brakes going forward. Use the money you saved for an exhaust brake. Good luck !
Ford has come out with a new Super/Severe duty pads a little while ago. I have been using them at my shop on anything Ford that comes in and my customers love them. I have one guy that has them on his SD that tows alot and has over 60k on them now and they are still more than 1/2 the life left.
IF you need new rotors, I HIGHLY recommend ART rotors. I abused mine on my old 7.3 and they held up perfectly. I do not recommend turning Ford rotors (unless Ford has improved their quality).
