should you have this problem again, connect a multimeter to the battery and check the voltage. if it is not above 13 volts remove the plug from the voltage regulator with the engine running. look at the plastic plug and you will see four letters on it A, S, F, and I... connect a jumper wire from the A terminal to the F terminal and see if the voltage on the meter starts to rise. if it does, unplug the jumper wire before it gets too high because it will just keep going up and up until it burns out the alternator. if it does rise up you're looking at a problem with the regulator itself, if it does not check the alternator and the wiring
I am working on an old POS 79 F-150 that's been in the family since new enough history. The alt. lite stays on while running but has 14+ vlt charge. I've found no loose wire or connections under the hood and about to go into the dash. My memory has failed as to how the lite functions in the system. Myself it doesn't matter if the lite goes out as long as it charges,but my nephew thinks it's a concern.
