I am now the proud owner of this MAchine. However, " ya knew there was gonna be a However" it get's bumpy on the front wheels at 32 -34 MPH. not a lot just enoulf to rattle things around, it doesn't do it at any other speed.
HAve had tires balanced, it has 74,000 miles and in Great shape.
From what I know It looks like the steering stablizer is the thing to replace to try to resolve this issue.
Yeah, post some pictures for starters! Congrats on your purchase, and
good luck.
As far as the front-end, it could be ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rod
ends, and the list goes on... Check these common points and post back your findings. We're glad to help.
Sadly enough, a lot of SDs had the shimmy. Most of them occurred at 40-45 mph. Some worse than others. Some at different speeds. Lots of different remedies have been tried with varied results. I know what cured mine. New front rotors. Our OEM rotors are too light duty and warp easily. Something about a certain speed caused mine to shimmy like you describe. Others think it could come from not properly torquing the lug nuts. I'm betting on warped rotors. Don't bother trying to turn them down, just won't last.
Well myth or not, mine shimmed until I replaced my rotors and not even expecting it, noticed that day the shimmy was gone and has been ever since. I have had the shimmy for over 5 years prior to that.
I would start by relacing the steering stabilizer. Mine had a slight shimmy when I bought
it with 50,000 miles on the clock.
Still shimmied after alignment. Replaced the steering stabilizer with a Rough Country and the shimmy stopped. Best $35.00 you will spend on your truck!
not sure if ya can see it but it looks like it took a hit at one time or another the bolt on bottom looks bent to me and there are 2 indents where it looks like the mount has been moved over....
uhhh if they are warped bad enough, you will feel it when not on the brakes. I had a Taurus that was bad about it. Those pads are just off the rotor when not in use, so a bad warp will be felt.
