Bad Vibes

I wqs off work yesterday, and crawling around under the 55, looking for the possible cause of a bad vibration I get between 60-70 mph. Shaking the drive shaft ,I discovered that the front u-joint had apprx. 1/16th" side to side play (latteraly) as if the cross were 1/16th too small "side to side". Went to my local parts house for a replacement, with the shaft, to find that the front joint is asymetrical, (wider than it is tall) where the rear one is not. They did not have the joint in question, but made one up for me out of 2. Took it home, installed both joints, test drive, WOOHOOO!!! Problem solved! It was a good day off. Bill Number Dummy- Is that common? Different style u-joints on the same shaft?? The counter man said he thought the rear one was a chevy part #..

While fairly rare it`s not totally uncommon, I`ve occasionally seen wider a taller then wide u-joint but usually both are the same style/size u-joints on a drive shaft.
Is your drive shaft stock?

No Morris, it's been shortened and welded.
