Question front drive shaft U-joints.

I just went to put new u-joints in the front drive shaft in my 79 f150. The previos owner blew the rear u-joint and the front one had never seen grease. So I went to autozone and got a pair of Brute Force 4800bf. When I went to install them i realized there not the right ones. I've check out several different parts stores online and they all say my truck should use these u-joints.

The originals look like there a strange joint. One sides longer then the other. Every thing on this truck's drive train it original. Does anyone know what type of u- joints I would need. And where a good place to get them is. Also and recommandtions on brand of u-joint. This is going to be a mud truck plus a daily driver.

By the way the truck has a 300-6 with 4 sp manual trans. And I believe the np205 transfer.

thanks in advance.

front drive shaft U-joints.

I checked with Autozone here and they gave me the same part number. 2-4800bf for Brute Force and 2-4800 for PDQ.

I know I replced the front ones on my 78 and those should be the same since it's the same t-case/axle as my 79.

As soon as my wife e-mails me my expense tracking spread sheet, I can check the part number I got for the 78.

K.

Dang. I just got the file and no part number. Sorry.

front drive shaft U-joints.

I've seen u-joints like that when trying to mate up a half ton to larger running gear. If for instance you put a 60 in the front of a half ton the yoke will be for the larger u-joint while the driveline will take the smaller u-joint so you need one of the ones that's different on the axis of the driveline versus the pinion yoke..

Which on yours takes the small side of your u-joint?

front drive shaft U-joints.

U joints can be specified by the distance across the caps each way by the diameter of the caps each way. Just about every combination. Measure out what you need and look in the size charts until you find the one you need. With these old trucks things get changed and some trucks were ordered with special fleet specs so you never know.

front drive shaft U-joints.

Thanks for all the replies. Did some searching around in a friends garage and found a different drive shaft that fits my truck and the u-joints that it should take. So now I don't have to worry about finding u-Joints. Again thanks for the help.
