What would be the best mod for my truck? I want it to have a little capability off-road, but mostly street ability. I drive proboably 95% of the time on the road, but when I do go off road I want it to work. I have a 88 F-150 4X4 with the 300 I-6. It also has a Limitied slip, but I don't think it works very good. It has 31x10.5 allterrains,
Thanks,
Lars
I would upgrade my tires to something with some bite...BFG mud terrains are great tires,I use 33x9.5 on mine they are tall and skinny (pizza cutters) perfect for light offroading.
they will fit without a lift.I have run them on 2 trucks, one with 4.10 gears and a manual trans and the other 3.50 gears and an automatic. I had no problems with them
Without a doubt lockers and large aggresive tires with the proper gearing are the way to go for maxium off road ability. If you want something with decent road characteristics while having better than average off road capability, go with a 31x10.50 in something similar to a BFG mud terrain or a fairly aggresive all-terrain and get yourself a true locker in the rear and a limited slip up front. Believe me, you will be impressed.

A locker in the back with 95% street driving is alil tough. I'd suggest rebuilding the LS, 75 bucks for the kit and it's pretty easy. There is a thread in the differential forum on how to do it. It's probably worn out.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .
Thats it for now, saving for a stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.
myself as an ex off roader would go with a set of 3.73 gears for better fuel economy than 4.10 and I would use a air locker system which switcges the normal diff into a locker... This would exceptionally well and could make things interesting. go out in 4x4 and get stuck with the locker not engaged and then use them to get out thats what I would do. But in a sense you really got to spin those limited slips to get an potential give to the other side. Dodge rams are the worst... but who needs a Dodge...
