My wife had just left for work... I was still in bed. I turned on the TV and was watching NBC. Watched things unfold on TV. Then that afternoon I went to work. (Public safety sector) and the building that was normally open was locked down.
And this is not a thread about the political implications of that day. Its about the loss we faced as a nation.
Was proud of what FDNY did that day and job the NYPD and Port Authority did as well. Again a brotherhood all those who work in public safety.
I work 3rd shift and had just laid down to sleep when my ex wife called and told me to turn on the news on tv. I turned it on and they were talking about the 1st plane hitting,I thought it was strange but could have been an accident, then I saw the second plane hit and I knew it was an attack on America. I didn't sleep much that day,and I will never forget what happened,I think about it every day.
As for where I was that day, In my apartment off of acadia drive, and mcercher drive in saskatoon, sask, canada.
Had a friend working in washington, and she had me call her cause she was scared of all that was going around down there too.
I was really thankful to be living in Canada that day. I watched alot of the mess on tv, and it was pretty crappy to watch it all go down. I know lots of canadians went down to help out too, and I probably would have except I was just way to far away.
as for that day myself, was visiting my grandmother in kearney nj...was sitting in front of the tv watching sportscenter and seeing the results from monday night football. we walked outside to go down the street to dunkin donuts, and everyone was standing in the street looking in the same direction. i asked what was going on and they pointed towards new york city and clear as day you could see both towers on fire. i snapped about 50 pictures and watched both towers fall. obviously i wont forget that day.
and to the pollitical stuff that was posted earlier by andym and myself, that wasnt meant to steer away from what this thread was all about, but you have to remember alot of people have built up anger for alot of reasons concerning 9-11...and for me it was trying to explain to my 84year old grandmother who was suffering from alzsheimers (spelling) what was taking place and trying to calm her down. i moved from massachusettes to florida on 9-15-2001 (my first time moving there, has since moved back to mass, and has since moved back to florida)
on 9-11-2001 i had some of my last "real" conversations with my grandmother, due to alzsheimers setting in.
one of my friends moved to Florida in 2000. He would walk the beach every morning, and got to know the people who were there daily. He knew one guy only to say hello to as he walked by. He said the guy always had his small kids with him, and seemed to be a great dad. A few days before 9-11 he stopped seeing them. Imagine how he felt when, a few days after 9-11 he picked up the newspaper and saw the picture of the pilots; the one who took the first jet into the WTC was the guy on the beach....................
I was at work. It ruined our day. We were in such shock that I sent my crew home early. It was so strange with no planes in the air. I didn't know anyone in the tower but firemen I know from my city went to help in the rescue efforts.
Never Forget 9/11!
I was at western ILL university. I had a math class at 9 Am cst that I went to, but left early cause I felt like crap. I walked back into the dorm and looked at the TV while waiting for the Elevator... At first I thought another plane crash, but my suitemates were glued to the tv When I got back to our room... I'll never forget it. Classes were canceled. (class was previously never canceled in the schools history)
I remember I was in 5th or sixth grade and my mom was gettin my sister ready and she stopped and watched the news and she told me to come and watch. I remember the two towers fallin and the planes hittin the towers. I dont remember where my dad was but I know he heard about it. My mom said I didnt have to go to school that day and I didnt. I didnt understand what was all happenin at the time but i remember my teacher explainin it to us the next couple of days.
Sept. 11th, 2001. A 23 year old sailor had just started some time off after finishing up his PO2 Leadership school. I slept in a little that day and when I got up to use the can, I flipped the tv on and went about my duty. As I came back, I watched live as the second plane hit and a short while later, I saw them come down. I remember heading to the local armory because my base was locked down and unless you were a critical worker, you werent allowed in or out that day. I still remember how strangely quiet the skies were, with the exception of the national and coast guard helo's flying over.
I cannot gripe about what politician did what or what he didnt do. There are so many factors to weigh in. I still get chills at the thought of that day. I have also learned that instead of grieving the loss of all those people, we should celebrate the lives of the victims. I personally didn't know any of them except for one Navy Lieutenant, whom I only knew from being in the same small hangar at Barbers Point as a young airman
I was home from a work related injury and taking care of my mom n law. Wife called and told me to turn on the TV for coverage. I was in shock and disbelief. I spent 17 months in a muzzy country and found out how weird they are but to carry out such a thing was terrible.
