Came out of the house this morning to go to work only to find out someone had stolen my tailgate. Where is the best place to get a replacement? Do I have to go through Ford? Does anyone make a tailgate lock for the old body style (F250HD 1997)?
There are still lots of them in the salvage yards. I would not buy an aftermarket tail gate. They never seem to be as durable. As far as a lock, i have no idea.
Maybe you should just get a gator gate. You know the ones that are made out of nylon. They are cheaper and they can be locked easily with a bycicle lock!
F250_HD_Crew, I have heard of people using band style hose clamps on the side that releases the tailgate. Just put it on the side that is notched after you have one back on the truck and snug it up. It would slow the theives down anyway as it would take a bit of time to unscrew the hose clamp to free up the notched out area so they could release the tailgate.
