Switch Placements

I have been looking for a place to put a few misc switches and not really found any place that I liked and look like they belonged there. As I was driving down the road the other day and looking at the radio I got to thinking that if I replaced that giant radio/cd/tape player with a regular size radio I would have room for several switches on the blank filler plate that they always install with the new radio.

Has any of you done this...how did it look?

Do a search using upfitter You will find threads about 'upfitter switch kits".

Robin, can you get the upfitters to fit into the older dashes or do you need to convert the lower panel to the '05 and up style?

Thanks Robin,

I had a bid on Fleabay a while ago on a lower '05 dash panel that I was for sure thinking it was mine. Got sniped in the last minute and I was out bid. The hole purpose of getting it was to mount a set of upfitters to the truck - plus I like the extra glove box thingy. I since added the under the dash gauge holder to the truck and like it a lot so getting the '05 panel is out for now. And the upfitters don't seem to fit into the cubbie on the '02's so that's why I thought I missed something. Maybe someone else knows for sure.

Chris (Ponyboy),

I don't get into any bidding wars on Ebay. I take note of the end time and go in and check just before that. As an example I got a new ICP sensor by waiting until about a minute before the end of bidding and bumped the bid the minimum amount. Didn't leave any time for anyone to place a new bid. $52.00 bucks for new ICP.

I set an alert in my cell phone calendar to remind me to go back and check an item right before close of bidding. I have been up in the middle of the night just to make that one bid on something I really wanted.

It's just a round little lighted rocker switch. The same type came with my heated seats, except those were a 3 position switch. I wish I would have seen that location before I stuck the switch where I did. I've seen those at one of the auto parts stores, but can't remember which one.

You get those switches at advance auto parts. If i were doing that, i'd keep them closer together, and more towards the left, as the steering wheel blocks most of that but thats a GREAT idea!

I have a pair of switches in my truck that mount pretty clean, they were in there when I bought it and not sure who makes them/where to get them. I'll try and post a pic tonight.

That's perfect for driving over potholes, or a bumpy road. Otherwise you would miss the switch.
