390 FE Rebuild
I have done the vacuum tests now, all according to Steve Christ tips in his book, and info found on the net. And the results are indeed pleasing
, it is as suggested here that the engine runs a little rich. I am very happy about this
, as it gives me the chance to spend my money on lots of other stuff on my car (headers, new 2 1/2 exhaust, electrical stuff).Have anyone got tips on tuning the edelbrock 1405 carbs. It should be easy, per the instructions, but it seems I might not understand it completely
?
On your carb....start the motor and bring it up to operating temp... You need some kind of Tachometer!! a hand held tach/dwell meter works best as its under the hood with you as you make the adjustments to the Air and fuel mixture screws.. with the motor turned off hook up your tach....and turn in your air and fuel mix screws all the way in...Dont tighten them up..you'll damage the points on them...so be careful... when the spring on them is compressed thats good....then turn them out 1 and 1/2 turns...and start the engine..note what the rpm's are on the tach.... then one screw at a time slowly turn one screw in about a 1/16th of a turn and pay attention to the tach...you want to get the max rpm you can by useing the air and fuel mixture screws...go back and forth between each until Maximum RPM is obtained... then back your Idle screw back down to where the Factory specs say its supposed to idle at..Be it in Park or neutral, or in drive..
Then with the motor off ..Disconnect your Vacuum hose to your Distributor and plug the hole in your carb where the line came from....Start the motor again and check your timing a reset as needed..shut the motor off...reconnect the vacuum line...re-start the motor and check your idle with the tach inline and re-adjust the rpm....
