engine and rebuild diff recomendations

ive tried a few forums with no help or replies hopefully il get a something back here.

i have a 1989 ford f150 with a stock(tired) 5.0 4x4 with a AOD 4" lift 35" tires stock 3.55 gearing
i have low oil pressure, i hooked up a mechanical gauge.
i plan pulling the motor to put new bearing and oil pump and all the seals as i go. i am gonna leave the heads on

The purpose of the truck is my haul around town truck and my hunting truck. i just need to make it reliable...I plan on building a 408 later on but for now reliablilty is the goal, just so you know.

While its down im gonna swap the gears to 4.56 so i can bring the powerband back up to the normal range with a little extra for the passes here in washington.

im not worried about doing any of the work im familar with engines, the diffs will be my first go around fully by myself but i know what im looking for......

ANYHOW what i do need your guys help with is the parts im putting in it, im not going all out but i refuse to put junk in it so for the engine rebuild kit i found this kit from summit
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fe...rd/model/f-150
i was wondering if anyone has used/know of someone who has used this kit or summit in general? any things to look out for? all of my internal work has been performance based or building strokers so for "general maintainance" im not sure whats good or bad for kits like this. Also what would be the point of getting undersized bearings?

for the gears i decided to go with these
front http://www.summitracing.com/parts/spz-36066/overview/
rear http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mg...-456/overview/

the only reason in not sticking with the same manufactors is becasue i could find a full kit for motive gears with the front. i also was debating G2 but i heard a few more bad reviews and usa standard are yukons "not to par" sets but still as strong.
let me know wha you guys think on the parts or have any other advice based off what you have done ..thank in advance

The d44 has a carrier split at 3.73/Down, 3.92/Up.

So you will need an appropriate carrier for your 4.56's on the D44.

That is to say, the differential itself has the ring gear at different distances from center depending on the gear ratio, there is a 3.73/down diff/carrier, and a 3.92 and up diff/carrier.

And the bearings, be ready to hit a parts store, or just wait until you have the engine open to order them. You never know if it's been opened up before you and undersized. The factory also has different sized bearing during manufacturing, so don't assume that all your bearings are std sized.

As for the point of getting "oversized" bearings. The bearings are oversized to make up the difference of an "undersized" crank. If the crank has ever been reground, or polished, or maybe the specs were just off at assembly, you need oversized bearings to get the appropriate bearing clearances.

Good to know on the bearings. Thank you for the info. Il have to do more research on my front end on whether or not the carrier will allow for larger gears. Thank you for the info

Hey so is there a way to figure out which Dana 44 have the " higher" carrier break? I found solid axle Dana 44 for $100 with 4.10 in them already that I plan on picking up. But I hear 4" lift won't be enough to keep the pumpkin from smashing into the crossmember? So I'm not sure if I want to sas especially since I want to stay coil instead of leaf. Guess it depends on how much work I want to do. But back to the original question. Is there a way to tell which carrier will allow for " larger " gears without opening it up and measuring

Differential Carrier Breaks | West Coast Differentials

Just google d44 carrier break and read up. Pretty common, plenty of axles do it.

If it has 4.10's then yes, it has the correct carrier. But it also needs to be high pinion if you intend on swapping the carrier into your axle. High pinion = reverse rotation. edit: I may be wrong on the HP carrier being specific to the HP axle, it may be the same High Pinion/Low Pinion, I'm really not sure.

edit2: yes, i was wrong, a d44 carrier is a d44 carrier, so you only need to worry about if it's the 3.92+ or the 3.73- carrier.

It might just be better off to do the sas and keep the 4.10 for now.
