Ok I have a 07 Ford Expedition with the 3v 5.4L V8, with a 6 speed auto transmission. I have been waiting and waiting for a programmer (preferably SCT unless someone can offer something better).
My question is what is available to me? my computer code is: GZV1
I would talk to Troyer performance(sponsor of this forum), I know he does work with the 5.4s in the 150s, I would imagine that he would be able to help you out on that. Other then that I just don't know unless there are other custom tuner people out there. I know there is one user on here that hypes up Sniper software and that might work for you if your comfortable doing your own.
I talked with SCT today about these vehicles and they told be point blank that by the end of the year is a possiblility for release...Dont take that to the bank but use that as a very close to release time frame...The more people inquire about these 07+ expes the better chance SCT will have something by that time frame...So email me if your interested and i will forward to powers to be at SCT and let them know to hurry up
"WilliamsPlumbing".....The HyperTech is junk and the SCT isn't. Not trying to be a smart a** but I had one and my mileage went down 2 mpg and the performance was unchanged from the factory flash. Then their tech told me something was wrong with my Expy. I had to argue to a refund when I sent it back.
The 6 speed tranny will be available on the '09 F150 so I think SCT will speed up the process.
But, did you get the refund? I haven't installed the Hyperteck as yet. I really don't need a lot of power, 'cept when I'm towing. I can keep up with everyone on the freeway as it is and I've already been warned about excessive speed on the "frontage" road. In reality the Expedition EL is really a glamorous truck and not a large Mustang. My 01 Lariat SCrew 4X4 was more fun to drive and had a way different feel as far as handling is concerned.
I have the Sniper software for my 05 5.4l f150 and love it. You don't need to by the tuning software, you can do mail order tunes from sniper tuners just like with the other guys. I have been very impressed with sniper. If you want info on who tunes just PM me.
I've tried twice to tune my Expedition with the HyperTech, to no availe. Keep getting reports the it's not for my vehicle. I've tried twice to down load from their web site, with no luck. I'll try one more time then it's off to other things. I don't really have the time to keep messing with this device.
We have been working with carbonmetallic on some betta test tunes. So far the 87 tunes seem to be working better than stock. Better economy and throttle response a little more fun to drive.
I wasnt going to say anything till Mike at 5 Star Tuning mentioned it, but now its public so....
I have been beta testing the SCT X3 with Mikes custom tunes for right around a month now. We first started with the 87 performance tune. We made some adjustments and now it really helps the expedition perform better. Much better throttle response than stock. The RPM's seem to be running lower at given speeds than the stock tune allows, thereby increasing efficiency and producing better fuel economy. Around town I have seen a 1-2 mpg increase and on the highway I have seen all the way up to 22 mpg while driving over 70 mph. This is quite a bit better than the stock tune was giving me. The 87 performance tune has made my truck alot more fun to drive. No more having to floor the accelerator to get the truck moving. I have 33 inch tires and a truxxx leveling kit installed. The X3 also allows you to change the values for your tire size to keep the speedometer and other gadgets calibrated correctly.
After we found a safe and comfortable 87 octane performance tune, we tried a 93 octane performance tune. For daily driving I think the 87 is all you need but the 93 gives the truck a little more torque in the lower rpms and makes the truck a little more fun to drive. Once again throttle response has improved.
I am impressed with how easy it is to use the X3. It takes roughly a couple of minutes to upload the stock file, then about 2 minutes to download the new tune to the trucks computer. Very easy, just plug in the cord and follow the directions it gives you. Mike from 5 Star Tuning sends the tunes via email and you connect the SCT X3 to your computer with a printer cable, and you use the SCT update to load the tunes onto your X3.
I also want to mention that Mike is not paying me for doing this beta test. I had inquired with a few companies on when SCT would be providing a programmer for the 07+ expedition. He found me on these forums and contacted me asking if I would be interested in doing a beta test for the 07+ expeditions. I was pretty confident there would be no adverse affects to my truck given the fact that Mike has tuned the 5.4L on the F150 for many years without any problems. Right now the X3 with custom tunes is the best option, even given the fact that SCT hasnt opened up the ability to change the 6 speed transmission, but we think it will be allowed shortly. That being said, even without the transmission changes, the tunes really do increase the throttle response and improve the drivability of my truck.
If anyone has questions regarding the beta test, just let me know, I will happily try to answer them.
