and no, it's not the kind your run into in the sketchy bar......
My transmission isn't shifting right. It costs fine and and drives fine under light load, but when ever I'm in OD and and try to speed up without dropping a gear or whenever I'm towing (empty single axle trailer) while in OD, it feels like my brakes are pulsating. I'm pretty sure it's not the brakes themselves (no light and it doesn't do it when I'm actually braking), but it actually slows the truck down, not just loose power. They only last about a quarter second, but they'll pulsate pretty fast (twice a second)
It's not something that progressively got worse. Got dressed one night to head to a friends and it started doing it.
Changed the tranny filter and flushed the pan twice (4 quarts each time, only been about 10K since my last tranny flush) and it did not help any, so I'm guessing it's some little sensor or the TCM.
engine idles find and I can sit it in the garage and race it with no miss
I actually feel the truck draw back then continue forward, almost like it just randomly kicks down a gear then jumps back very quickly
Also, I can slam down on the gas, kick out of OD, and it accelerates normally. really only does it when I'm about 1/2 way on the gas (speeding up from 40-50 while coasting)
a miss wouldn't throw a light or anything? I've got a OBD scanner and it's coming up with nothing, as is the scanner from Vatozone
I'm going to go give that parking brake thing a try, hope the neighbors don't mind..
Sure I have had them throw a code, but not all of the time, especially if they are intermittent.
Some misfire codes can be difficult to get with the basic scanner.
When you say "They only last about a quarter second, but they'll pulsate pretty fast (twice a second)" do you mean twice a second for only one second now and then, or for many seconds like running over the warning strip on the highway?
like running over a warning strip. They last for several seconds at a time, and pulsate very rapidly. I tried the power breaking thing and I felt it then too, looks like I'll be pulling some spark plugs tomorrow
If it feels like the warning strip then I would lean more towards the torque converter shuddering in lock up, sorry.
The other problem is that you wont duplicate it sitting still power braking, that's not the converter!
Most of the time changing the fluid will fix the shudder, if not I would try some additive like shudder fix or lube guard. Sometimes replacing the converter is necessary.
well I was able to duplicate it by power braking, but it does feel almost like a drive-line vibe when it's doing it, only it actually pulls the truck back instead of just shake.
