I've just gotten an F250 Super Duty Powerstroke. It has the Audiophile 6 disc in it but I'd like to put in a Kenwood 8120 Navigation unit in the truck. Has anyone swapped units similar to these? Any advice before I buy?
Yeah the dash has changed a bit, but there is an install kit available that makes installing the unit easy. The part that becomes questionable is the wiring, that is where I can help somewhat. You will need to find out some of the info from others such as the reverse sensing wire, I'm not sure where or what color it is in an 08.
For example I would recommend getting the Scosche FD23B wiring adapter and the Scosche FD1432B dash kit. I recommend the Scosche wiring because the Metra wiring adapter doesn't have the wires for Vehicle Speed Sensor (not needed for the Kenwood though) or Steering Wheel Controls. The Scosche kit saves you from having to splice into your factory wires for those functions.
i am going to be getting a kenwood 8120. any reccomendations on were i should get it? also i have satelite radio (stiletto) and want to keep it but am not sure if the 8120 has an input i can hook it up to like an aux?? anyone know?? thank you.
just ordered the 8120 and got it for 1032 from 6th ave. It goes for about 1432 but if you google 6th ave coupons and look through them you will find one for Kenwood:
Kenwood DNX-8120 Navigation/DVD Entertainment System with Built-in Bluetooth - Only $1038 6th ave coupon code AFLKEN1038 [Exp. 10/22]
the coupon code is listed above but expires tomorrow but im sure they have others too just google it.
I installed a pioneer AVIC d1 in my 2008. You need an install kit which fits the space perfectly and will tell you how to take out the dash. You will also need a two datacable converters from peripheral to convert the data cables in your truck to actual wires your stereo can use and to continue using your steering wheel controls. You will also need to bend the bracket in the back up or cut it out to fit the aftermarket unit in the spot. I took two days to do mine but I also added back up camera, Ipod interface, Bluetooth and XM which took even more room I had to find for modules. If you have modules to hide, above your glove box is a good spot if they are thin or to the right of it. I hid most of the modules over there on that side. let me know if you need help.
hey jasfaa what is the install kit the only things i got were the unit and the steering wheel controls and the harness for the wiring. Is that all i need??
As beerstalker stated, you will also need a plastic kit. I agree Scosche is probably the best and most well known. I used the peripherial steering wheel controls because a friend of mine is still in that business and said that he has not had any issues. I think another company for the plastics is metra or metro but any of them should work for you.
