no experience w/ hedman - only use Doug Thorley products on my van. someone had a banks system completen FS - headers and catback for $350 - new. that's the only other brand i would personally consider.
yeah, and on F series stuff there are a lot more options - i drive an E350 - heat/space/survivability all come into play. truck owners have few constraints. i kinda forgot what you drove when i posted. sorry.
i have nothing but good things to say about my thorley headers. but remember to retorque after day one, then week one, then month one, then anually. you'll have no leaks and no problems
had my muffler dude do it. ran 3.5" pipe from the y-pipe to the cat. since my cat is single inlet/outlet we cut the cat back until we could weld a 3.5" inlet tube and a 3" outlet to it. then fitted a flowmaster the 3" out to factory tip location.
I've searched Thorley for my Van, 80 460 and they show chrome and ceramic. The cheapest set is $700+? Am I missing something, I found Headmans for under $200, not ceramic of course but is there that big of a difference?
There is an old saying "You get what you pay for" and I've found that when there is that much of a difference in prices for something I really need take a long hard look at it.
i bought/installed my headers with 50k miles on the van, i have more than 250k now and never a problem with my thorleys. since i have not run anything else in the van but the stock manifolds i truly can't say these lasted when nobody else's would... but i am hard on my van. i have the manifolds off the van right now. they measure as flat across the flange as they did when i bought them - yes i am using the same head ruler as i did when i first checked them. my exhaust guy insisted on thorleys. i think it is less important when you are working with a truck where underhood temps are not an issue as with the van and i think you have even more latitude pre-EFI...
I WOULD DEFINATELY SPEND THE MONEY FOR THE CERAMIC COATING IN A VAN. caps on purpose - in fact i have wrapped my headers and fully accept their potential premature death. and the second they fail, i'll be on the phone ordering a replacement set of CERAMIC COATED thorley headers
also this topic popped up somewhere else, someone else had nice things to say about thorley products and he worked for hooker.
also, i was wrong, my system is 3.5" from the y-pipe thru the cat and then back from there to a 4" tip.
