I have a 2000 E150 with the 5.4, 60k miles. I found this forum after pulling the engine cover off and realizing I couldn't find the spark plugs! There was a thread about 5.4 spark plugs that was encourging (I can't find it now though), but I'm still afraid to start this 'casue I don't know it that's the problem or not. I now know what a COP is at least!
After I filled up the tank and parked it (pointing downhill, the back door leaks if parked level) we had some wind and rain. Maybe 90 to 100 mph, thanks to Jeanne. About 10 miles of driving after the wind died down is when it started running rough. At cruzin' speeds - 30 to 50 or so. If I nail it and stand on the gas it really smooths out and I don't notice it missing at all. But driving at a constant speed or under slow acceleration it's really rough. I was going to change the plugs but after looking at it I can't get the courage to start. I did my wifes '94 Aerostar and thought this would be similar but have since changed my mind.
The air intake and filter look dry. Most of the wind was coming from the rear, right side, then right front. I've driven it 60 miles or so now and it hasn't changed. What I don't understand is that if I floor it, it sounds great, and has the same get-up-and-go as usuall. Not that I floor it a lot but...
I'm hoping it might be a sensor, or something else that's easier to change? Or maybe bad gas, but wouldn't I have noticed it sooner than 10 miles? I mean, there can't be 10 miles worth of fuel in the fuel line, can there?
Hey if you know what a cop is then you know where the spark plugs are if you are over 100.000 miles it's time to change them. Awsf 22E are the plugs you will see when you pull them out any other ? Ask racer guy he is the real guru
Talk about thread mining...this thread is 4 years old, and was the OP's only post, and that day was the last time he logged on. I'm guessing he moved on...
