Is my 6637 safe?

Is my 6637 air filter safe un covered with out any housing? safe from water and excess dirt that a plastic cover may help with?

I've been running one like that for a couple years w/o any problems.
It may get a little warm when standing in traffic but cools off when you get moving again.
I still have the snorkel that goes over the battery to help guide cooler air at it.

BTW; Are you missing a clamp on the filter?

Zip tie it inside the fender anywhere, preferably a location that won't get wet

i washed my truck yesterday with a bucket, cloth and garden hose (normally hit the car wash) and when i got done i opened the hood and noticed mine did get wet. i think the water came from where the hood and drivers front panel meet. took it off and let it dry in the sun before re-installing.

I would just try to get the pipe to fit into the hose or filter further to get the filter out from under the drip edge.

I am also worried about my 6637 when I go 4x4 and play in the mud/water... I usually throw in the stock air box (even though its leaky and is really bad) for the 4x4 trip then switch back to my 6637 when i get back home

I agree the 6637 is a great filter but we need a better alternative. I like the covers that you can buy to put over them but are they water proof? I have seen a fabric that will breathe and is waterproof. I can't remember the name right now but I have even had some at one time.

Would a water proof filter still be able to breathe??

Some of these filters are already water resistant.

I have some of that stuff on my snowmobile... not sure exactly what it is called but I would be worried about its durability as a cover for the 6637. Not much give to it, and it looks like it would snag/tear easily. I'm not a big wheeler/mud runner so I'm not too worried about my 6637 w/Pete's cover getting water damage.
