Hiya everyone, dont post much on here, but I have a question. I have an 04 F150 w/ about 58000 miles on her now. 2 Wheel Drive, Tow package, crew cab, lariat.
Now my question is this, the axle code on my door is an h9, 3.55 limited slip, ok? Well I reciently got an edge programmer and was scrolling through the options where you can change the gear ratio. From what I understand and have been told when you go into this option, the edge is suppose to display the CURRENT GEAR RATIO programmed into the computer. Well when I go to that option it says 3.73. As far as I can tell the axle has not been swapped out, the bolts dont look like they've ever been touched, and of course i'm not the original owner.
So should I try to program the edge w/ 3.55 gears and see what happens? Worst that could happen is just a bunch of false readings right? As for right now, All the readings I get from the edge match the onces on the truck's dash so I'm inclinded to think 373 is right but IDK...
I'd believe the door tag before the Edge.... I remember reading posts some time ago that the Edge showed wrong axle info. You can set it for the right axle and see what happens... And more than likely, you will not have any problems... I'm sure some the other Edge owners will chime in...
I can't remember if I had this problem or not when I installed my Edge.. I know I had some weird readings initially. But did not have any problem when I set the Edge for the correct info...
Well I believe the door jam info as well, but it just bugs me that the stoooopid computer showed the wrong info... IDK I'll try changing it tonight on my ride in to work and see if anything changes. Like I said, Most that could happen is some wrong sensor readings, I dont think drivability would be effected.
Can't help you with the Edge part of your concern. But you can tell what your gear set is very easily. All you need to do is jack up the rear, both tires off the ground. Mark the inside of one of the tires and mark the yoke/driveshaft going into the rear. Rotate the marked tire one revolution and count the number of times the yoke/driveshaft goes around. If it's roughly 3 1/2 times you've got 3.55's and if it's 3 3/4 you have 3.73's.
Coupla things to add to svt2205's suggestion: That test only works if you have an open diff. You won't be able to spin the wheel if you have a limited slip. Unless it's totally worn out! Also, you need to have the trans or t-case in neutral (wheels blocked up front so it won't roll over you) so the driveshaft will spin.
I'll add that my Edge read my factory 4.10 gears correctly. Anyway, I agree: Verify your gear ratio and then program in whatever it is.
