i want my truck louder and dont have money to upgrade to 5inch pipes or stacks so im think just after the cat to cut and run it out the side. will this sound good? and this wont **** up back pressure right?
Depending on the year of your truck and if it's a Cali or not you won't have a cat. I would just cut the muffler out and leave as much pipe in there as possible... you don't want all that noise coming into the cab. Cut the muffler out then dump the exhaust out the side in front of the tire, or have a muff delete pipe bent up and run the stock exit.
its a 99 and i dont think its a cali model is there 2 mufflers or not because theres deffinatly a muffler in the rear then 2ft in front of it theres a rounder looking one and im guessing its a cat
Do it! Haha, I pulled the whole setup from the muffler back off and love it. The plans are to have it exit in front of the tire. I love the way it sounds and I bet you will too.
Keep in mind there is a fair amount of soot that comes from even a stock truck. So if you exit in front of the tire, you will be needing to clean the tire a lot more often. I "redirected" it there from under the truck for the same reason. I ultimately put the factory exhaust back in. Oh, and if you have the EBPV, it sounds like a 747 jet in winter time when that valve closes. It was quite obnoxious. Keep in mind i personally want a larger exhaust with factory sound levels, so I apparently am not the norm. The truck did sound good, I just don't care for the noise.
I put 4" straight pipe on mine and had it come out in front of the rear tire. It was real cheap too. I spent less than 150 bucks. Got a 4" downpipe from MBRP and then 4" pipe and a 45* elbow from a local place.

I've had mine dumping exhaust under the bed for well over a year now and barely have any soot build up. If we still had low suflur diesel, there would probably be more. How far did you have the tip stick out from under the truck?
I don't know, I don't have any pictures. A reasonable about, it came out at a 45* angle. The end of the pipe was about even with the edge of the tire. When it was under the truck it shot straight back and got the shock and axle dirty. I suspect if I had it turned down it would have been fine.
Here is the side exit exhaust on my truck, the PO had it done and I just rebuilt it with 4in SS pipe Crum71(Scott) gave me. It was straight piped but I couldn't hear inside the cab when the window was down (not to good with a 9mo old in the back) so Strokinit7.3(Will) gave me his SS hog muffler to put on her. She looks good, sounds good, and as long as you clean your truck you won't have any soot build up but it is rough on the wheel trying to keep it clean.
