Just got a call from my oldest grand daughter (12Years old). She was excited because she had shot her first deer this weekend. My son said that she placed the bullet right where he told her from about 220 yards with a Ruger .280. Hunting is a great way to spend some quality time with kids.

Congrats to her and your son. Getting the kids and grandkids involved in hunting and fishing is the only thing that can save it. My son killed his first two bucks fifeteen minutes apart when he was 8 years old, of course I was beside him in the stand. The first was a button buck and the second a nice 6 point.
I never will forget when he raised the gun to shoot the first deer, he took aim, dropped the gun back to his lap, looked me in the eye and said "Dad do you hear my heart?" Now at age 20 he is still my best hunting buddy.
hunting , fishing is a noble and needed part of a kids education, if the take to it, great, if not / don't force it....they just might try it again someday Dan / ft
>Way to go!!!!!! Congrats.
>I only have one question. Where is she that a twelve year
>old can hunt big game?
Actually she won't be 12 until her next birthday, but she is a licensed hunter in the great state of Texas. My son started her training with a .22 when she was 10, then let her shoot at targets with the .280. The first time she fired the .280 the scope hit her eye, but she learned a good lesson from that. She has fired my son's .300 WSM but it's a little strong for her. All the kids love to go to the lease.
