After 31 yrs of living in this world. Ifinally got the chance to go deer hunting, even though it was on the last day of the season. I was able to bring down a nice 115lb doe. after dressing she weighed 80 lbs. she may be small to some, but being my 1st, she is big. gotta love it!!!!
Congratulations on your first kill man. I don't shotgun hunt, but I do bow hunt. Anyways, you probably killed the best eating. A small doe like that is hard to beat for food.
Congratulations on your first deer. Now ...as you cut her up, you have to cut out the back strap first ... butterfly it and fry some up to nibble as you work. Gives you incentive to get it all done in one day. I boned all of mine... lots of work, but worth it.
congrats-
nothing wrong with that doe. like said, its the best eating. im 22, hunted since i was 13 ( 8 out of 10 seasons ) and only got to take anything home 3 of the seasons. "button bucks" the first seasons i got anything, and this last season i got THREE deer! 2 bucks and a doe. i gave one to my hunting buddies, and the doe to my father.
remember- not everyone gets the trophy on their first time out.
make sure you take her to a GOOD butcher, and get some "beer sticks" made from it. they are just snack sticks, but very good. not dehidrated like beef jerky. also, some summer sausage is great, goes good on ritz crackers and cheese.
We just made some salami. It is great. My machinist neighbor has a gigantic meat grinder and a meat stuffer. We get the mix, sleeves, and add some pepper, garlic, powdered milk, and mustard seed. That's the best snack I ever ate, like said on ritz crackers and cheese. We are taking some of our deer meat up to bowling green Mo next week to get it make into some of those sticks. They are great too.
